Senior Outreach Program

The Senior Outreach Program helps to identify older persons who do not normally use existing health and social services. The program informs older persons about available community resources and helps them access the services they need. The Outreach Program serves King County residents age 60 and older with special emphasis on African American elders.

Friendly, professional Outreach Specialists offer these services to the community:

Outreach Activities to inform the community about resources for seniors such as
  • Speaking engagements
  • Participating in community activities, health fairs, and other events directly related to programs and services for older persons.
  • Distributing brochures and other written information to community service organizations, churches, physicians, hospitals, local businesses, etc. to increase community awareness of the program.
Client Assistance to help older individuals obtain a needed service by
  • Informing seniors and their caregivers about community resources
  • Visiting seniors in their homes to determine the kind of help needed
  • Assisting elders to complete forms and applications for services
  • Arranging services.
  • Advocating on behalf of an older person when an agency or service provider is not responsive.
  • Following-up to determine if the help was received and satisfactory.
Breast Health Education and Screening for medically underserved older women by
  • Providing education about the importance of regular breast health screening through a grant from Public Health Seattle/King County
  • Scheduling mobile mammography screening at area senior centers, churches and housing facilities through a grant from the Puget Sound Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
